Dear Mobius,
Your assertion that Jay was incorrect is, in a word, incorrect. The laws of physics support Jay's claim.
A set mass (a motor vehicle in this case)traveling in a certain direction and then acted upon by a force to change its direction (i e:turning the wheels steering said vehicle or 2.applying breaking force,)will change direction(2.or reduce speed) with less effort and as a result more quickly than a mass that has greater weight even if size is the same.
And since the definition of "handling" to a car enthusiast is being able to respond quicker to steering and breaking input from the driver: Lighter cars handle better. Additionally, less mass having to be moved by the engine's horsepower and torque translates to more responsive acceleration as well. Which is yet another component of the "handling" experience. So, even your own final statement contradicts itself. As does your statement: "sure, if I stripped it, it’d get round the track a few seconds faster" ...doesn't that prove that it would handle better if it were lighter?
Well, there is nature's rebuttal to your assertion.

Enjoyed the article. It's great this car was created. This hopefully should give more manufacturers the incentive to create something similar or better. What is the charge time for this vehicle?

Jay, I enjoyed your review. You make several interesting and salient points, but you got one thing a bit wrong: less weight does not necessarily mean better handling.

Less weight means more acceleration.

One of the by-products of less weight is that it becomes easier to build and tune a suspension system which will handle better. It will also result in less tyre wear, better fuel economy and better turn-in too.

I have a heavyweight Porsche 928 S4, and it handles a lot better than most cars 400 kilograms lighter (in fact it handles better than most cars, full stop) and yeah - sure, if I stripped it, it'd get round the track a few seconds faster, but it wouldn't actually handle any better until things got really bent-out-of-shape. The masses work against you when they start swinging - and you know this I'm sure, because you must have spun off in old-school 911s a few times.

So, I question your assertion about weight and handling. It *can* affect the handling, but predominantly it's about the acceleration, baby!
