The face-lifted version of Porsche‘s extreme 911, the 911 GT3 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. So, the Porsche GT3 RS‘s face lift couldn’t be far behind and here we have proof in the form of some spy pictures of the mule doing some serious testing at the Nurburgring.

While most of the Porsche 911 997 models have received a subtle face lift during the past 2 years (911/Turbo/GT2/GT3), the 997 GT3 RS gets its face lift only now, which is the last in the lineup before the next generation 911 ushers in.

While the GT3 RS may be based on the wider 911 Carrera 4S, Porsche has made a few more modifications to this new model. The front fenders have been widened further and the rear gets a large adjustable spoiler to keep all the horses pegged to the ground, esp at high speeds that this thing is capable of. The RS also boasts of wider alloy wheels and fully re-tuned suspension. Up front, the GT3 RS gets LED daytime running lights and subtle revisions to the front bumper as well. The rear LED brake lamp has moved from the boot lid and is now integrated in the bottom part of the spoiler.

The jewel of an engine remains typical Porsche. A 3.8L flat six which now features Direct Injection and makes a total of 435 bhp which is 20 more than the earlier model. This is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox although the rumor grapevine believes the all new 7-speed PDK (Porsche Doppel-Kupplung) Double Clutch gearbox could find its way into this newest update to Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

However, the PDK might not make it when you consider these – Fitstly, most of the people who buy the GT3 RS are Porsche Purists and they would always prefer the manual and more importantly, the PDK adds extra weight to the whole package. Porsche would like to keep the GT3 RS minimal and light weight, the reason why carbon fiber and fiber reinforced plastic have been used extensively for the body panels and the interiors. The addition of a PDK might spoil the party but the PDK has immense potential – it can potentially shave off about 0.1 to 0.2 seconds off the 0-100 Km/h time of the previous GT3 RS which stands at 4.0 seconds and this could take the fight even to the Nissan GT-R!

These spy pictures also reveal the roll cage and carbon fiber race seats that are the same as on the present model. The GT3 RS will be revealed to the public at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September, so till then stay tuned to Carzi for more updates.
