Undercover Police Taxi

For the past year, Halton Region motorists have been speculating whether or not rumors around town of a undercover Police Taxi was real or not. As you can see in the photo above, a police car in Georgetown with a taxi-style light on the roof reading POLICE 878-5511. It sure isn’t as sexy as the Lamborghini Taxi!
In order to catch speeders and aggressive drivers in Milton and Halton Hills, Police have been putting taxi-style top lights on unmarked cars. Very sneaky indeed!
“Our goal here in Halton Region is to reduce the number of deaths caused by aggressive driving and motor vehicle accidents,” Inspector Bill Ford said. “It was very effective.
“The complaint was that we were using a cab light, but my response is that we were using a police light that looks like a cab light,” Ford said. “It didn’t say Halton Taxi on it. It said POLICE 878-5511.”
The Halton Police’s reasoning and strategy behind this move is hopes that motorists might start slowing down any time they see a taxi, thinking it might just be a police car.
