Ariel is a small British car company that currently make only one model; the Atom. In short, as I’m sure you know, the Ariel Atom is a lightweight and extremely fast vehicle with a variety of engine choices that will take you from “pretty fast” to “tear-your-face-off fast”.  It is safe to say that the Atom is more in line with a go-kart than an actual car. We are happy to report that the Atom will be joined by a new model in Ariel’s line up, and it will be called the Nomad.

While the Atom is more at home on the track than anywhere else, the Nomad is meant to take the road-less-travelled. It is designed as a lightweight, powerful off-road buggy that, in Ariel’s own words, is “designed for the rough and tough of the wild but just as home in the city”. Weighing in at a feathery 1477 lbs (670) kg, it is around 440 lbs (200 kg) heavier than the Atom.

The Honda-sourced 2.4 L four cylinder engine (K24), tuned to 235 bhp and 221 lb-ft of torque, should provide plenty of power for high-speed shenanigans. With a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 136 mph, the Ariel Nomad is no slouch. But these numbers are irrelevant as the Nomad is meant for places with less traction than paved roads.

To help it perform off-road, Ariel has turned to a number of reputable suppliers for their parts. The dampers and springs are provided by Bilstein and Eibach, respectively. Moreover,  the brakes are sourced from Alcon and the electronics coming from Race Technologies. To top it all off, the Nomad comes with a refreshingly simple manual 6-speed transmission.

Prices for the Ariel Nomad start at about £30,000, or roughly $53,600 CAD.
