It seems that every automaker is hopping onto the luxury crossover/suv bandwagon. And who can blame them when they are profitable and highly in demand? Take Porsche for example; the Cayenne has been a huge profit center for them, and now they have made room for the Macan crossover. Taking from a page of their book, Bentley has just released information about their entry into this ever more competitive market, the Bentley Bentayga.

If there ever were a vehicle created solely on market demand, it would be the luxury crossover/SUV segment. Jaguar, Lamborghini, Maserati, Aston-Martin, and of course Bentley have all announced that they are producing vehicles to satisfy the growing demand in this market. Bentley first showed us a glimpse of their SUV back at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The EXP 9 F concept was met with mixed reception, as many did not like the styling of it. Now 3 years later, and a couple of minor design tweaks later, we have the production version.

Set to debut at next week’s Frankfurt Auto Show, the Bentley Bentayga has some unique aspects that will surely make it stand out amongst it’s competitors. The big news here is that it is set to be the fastest production SUV on the planet. This bold claim is backed by a completely redesigned twin-turbo 6.0L W12 with claimed output at an astonishing 600 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque. This ludicrous amount of grunt will haul the 2422 kg beast from 0-60 mph in 4 seconds flat, onto a top speed of 187 mph. All this speed comes at a price, specifically at a starting price of £160,0000, or $325,000 CAD at current conversion rates.

But this is a Bentley, which means that there will be as much emphasis on luxury as there will be on performance. High quality materials, such as fine leather, wood, and metals will be found heavily throughout the cabin. The optional 1,950 watt, 18 speaker sound system by Naim will surely find it’s way to many Benaygas. There will be the option of either a 5- or 4-seat option, and if the 4-seat option is selected, the rear seats will be a 15 way adjustable including the ability to recline. The front seats will be 22 way adjustable with heating, ventilation, and massaging functions.
