One of the most exciting racing series in North America in recent years has been the Porsche GT3 Cup series. The competition is top notch whether it’s the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA or the Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada, plus it doesn’t hurt that cars racing are Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. This has been Porsche’s entry-level customer focused race car, until now. Porsche has confirmed that they will make the Cayman GT4 Clubsport to compete in GT4 class sanctioned races worldwide.

The road-going Cayman GT4’s recipe has proven to be so popular that the car is pretty much sold-out in North America. The combination of a beautifully balanced mid-engined chassis, a 6 speed manual transmission, rear wheel drive, and that amazing 3.8L flat six from the Carrera S makes this sports car an appealing choice for the enthusiast crowd. It’s only natural that Porsche has developed this chassis into a full on spec race car.

The Clubsport will carry over many of the road-going versions components, however there are some key differences between the two. The chief difference amongst the two is the switch to a PDK dual clutch transmission in the Clubsport. As much fun as it is to change your own gear, it is faster to have both hands on the wheel and have the transmission shift it in ~100ms for you. Moreover, the Clubsport will carry-over the front suspension set-up from the GT3 Cup car. Overall weight is down to 1300 kg, or 2866 lb, while the steel brakes will be 380mm at each corner. Power remains at 385 hp from the 3.8L flat six.

Porsche is set to debut the Cayman GT4 Clubsport at the L.A Auto Show on November 18th, 2015.
