The “Baby” of the McLaren range, the 570S, was revealed at the New York International Auto Show earlier this year. McLaren positioned the 570S to slot below the 650S, while distinguishing the two as separate model lines. While the 650S is effectively part of the “Super Series”, the 570S is part of the “Sport Series”. McLaren has let a select few automotive journalists to get their hands on the car early to let us know their thoughts.

When I say “Baby McLaren”, I mean that in terms of price and power. However, it is actually slightly bigger than the 650S. It has more trunk space, a higher roofline, and a bigger cabin. It is meant to be a more comfortable car than the 650S, which McLaren says could be used everyday. Being the first in the “Sport Series”, the 570S will spawn more variants. There will most likely be a convertible version, a track oriented version, and there are even talks for a shooting brake version.

The 570S does have some carryover parts from the rest of McLaren’s line-up. The carbon fiber tub and the 3.8L twin-turbo V8 are used in the 570S. However, the engine is detuned to deliver 562 horsepower. The car weighs in at a lightweight 2,895 lbs. McLaren has priced the 570S in the U.S.A at $180,000, making it the least expensive car that McLaren has ever made.

Check out some journalist reviews of the McLaren 570S at a press event that McLaren held in Portimao, Portugal.
