If your lifelong dream was to own an Audi R8 with laser beam headlights, it may be now possible to make your dreams come true. For many years now we have discussed how the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards has prevented many automakers from producing and putting some of their important and effective safety equipment on the market such as advanced headlights. However, until recently this situation has changed and the US market is now allowed to sell some of their advanced headlights to consumers.

In addition, it really shouldn’t come as a surprise to many that Audi was prepping its advanced laser headlights for the US market, because this was news that was known to us for a few years now. However, even though it may seem as old news it shouldn’t make the actual arrival of these headlights less exciting. Audi will be offering these advanced laser headlights on a limited amount of V-10 powered R8s that will easily complement with the standard LED low beams and dynamic front turn signals that the Exclusive Edition R8 possess. However, the catch is that only 25 lucky consumers will be able to possess one of these beasts that offer a very bright and pure white light while they are driving down the road in those late night drives.

Furthermore, the in depth specifications of how these lights actually work are that there’s a laser module in each of the headlights that contains four high intensity laser diodes that fire out blue lasers. From that point, a phosphor converter makes the adjustments of the 450 nanometer laser into a visible light that produces up above 40 miles per hour. Thus, these laser high beam lights greatly enhance the visibility on the roads for the driver by projecting a low and wide beam of light on the road ahead of which they drive on.

Even though there are many questions regarding these new laser high beam headlights, Audi wasn’t very cooperative in answering many questions or releasing much information ahead of the R8 exclusive edition’s Los Angeles Auto Show debut. However, the company has confirmed that the new lights are DOT approved and that they will be on the road in the near future.

Lastly, in addition to the exclusive laser beam headlights the new R8 exclusive Edition will come with, it will also be equipped with a standard quantum grey paint, 20 inch “ Y Design” wheels, a carbon fiber side blade with an orange strip and other upgrades. The price of this beast will start at $229,200, but will only be available to only 25 lucky consumers. In other words, may the odds be in your favor to own one of these beasts.
