Many people like discredit Lamborghini as “poseur” cars because of the lack of motorsports accolades that competitors McLaren, Porsche, and Ferrari have achieved. Well, the Raging Bull just walked the walk and literally destroyed the Nurburgring Nordschleife production car lap record.

It is no secret that the hotter, faster version of the Huracan has been testing extensively on the ‘Ring for the last couple of months, and is set to be revealed at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show next week. However, Lamborghini thought they would be nice and dropped an in-car video of the new Huracan Performante ripping up the German track.

If you recall, Lamborghini set an astonishingly fast time of 6:59 in the Aventador SV back in 2015. This was quite impressive when you take into account that it is only 2 seconds slower than the Porsche 918 Spyder hypercar. Though that seems slow compared to the Huracan Performante’s time of 6:52 dead. A full 5 seconds FASTER than the 918.

To achieve this ridiculously fast time, the new Performante has been upgraded significantly compared to the regular Huracan. Although details are scarce until the reveal we do know that the glorious 5.2L V10 gains 40 hp and 54 lb-ft of torque, while the rest of the car sheds weight while increasing torsional rigidity. The all-wheel drive also gains torque vectoring abilities to shuffle the power around better. However, the biggest change is the addition of active aerodynamics, which Lamborghini likes to call Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA) system. Essentially, the idea is similar to how Pagani utilizes active aero on the Huayra. There are flaps that open or close independently to increase downforce on certain parts of the car to increase cornering speeds. The front splitter is also active to increase or decrease downforce, depending on the situation.

The video is proof of how all the changes to the Huracan dramatically change the performance of the Performante, hence the name. Interestingly though, the last car to carry the Performante name was the Gallardo, which was an open top version of the “Superleggera. Nevertheless, the proof is in the stopwatch.

Also remember to check back next week when we cover the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show and a better look at the new Huracan Performante. For now check out the incredible lap below!
