<p>Felipe Massa was out halfway through the season due to a severe head injury, which resulted in Giancarlo Fisichella switching from Force India to Ferrari.  So those two drivers probably don&#8217;t count.</p>
<p>The article also mentions the widely known stat, that in 2009, after Tiger Woods, Kimi Räikkönen was the second highest paid athlete in the world.  Incidentally, Räikkönen is now out of a job (<a href="http://www.carzi.com/2009/11/18/kimi-raikkonen-quits-f1-2010/"><strong>Kimi Quits Formula 1</strong></a>) as Ferrari has given his seat to Double World Champion Fernando Alonso.  I doubt he&#8217;s too concerned though.</p>

<p>F1 Breaking News! Kimi Raikkonen&#8217;s manager Steve Robertson announced late on Tuesday November 18, 2009 to Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat that Kimi will not be racing Formula 1 in 2010.</p>
<p>&#8220;The only option for F1 next season was McLaren or nothing,&#8221; Robertson said.  &#8220;Kimi and McLaren were unable to reach an agreement, so he will not drive at F1 level, at least not next year.&#8221;</p>
<p>Raikkonen and McLaren failed to come to terms based on salary, sponsor duties and Kimi&#8217;s freedom to rally race. Turun Sanomat speculated that 2011 Raikkonen could most likely return to Formula 1 Grand Prix with Red Bull Racing.</p>
<p>Keep in mind that Kimi&#8217;s severance deal with Ferrari will net him more money by taking a year off in 2010, than if he would have raced the year!</p>
<p>Next year, he is likely to be active in rally cars and possibly the Le Mans 24 Hours, the newspaper added.</p>

<p>The Meccan Exciter utilizes a tubular chassis with extensive Carbon Fiber body work. The car will house a GM Duramax 6.6L Turbo Diesel engine tuned by Banks Engineering mated to either a Gearfox or Xtrac Sequential transmission. This engine should be tuned to deliver 650hp and 800ft-lbs of torque.</p>

<p>The Meccan Exciter is planned to be built in Toronto Canada at the now decommissioned Downsview Airforce Base.  They would sell customer competition cars as well as field their own team. They are currently seeking an investor to fund the build of the first car.</p>

<p>Popa Lucian (aka Sleepy) intended to build this car together with Christopher Mahoney a former superbike racer, who has worked with the team at HTT and helped design the <strong><a href="http://www.madwhips.com/htt-plethore/">HTT Plethore</a></strong>. Popa graduated top of his class from Machine Engineering Faculty at the Technical University &#8220;Gh. Asachi&#8221; in Romani and is currently pursuing his masters degree in CAD design.</p>

Every car is custom-built to order and 2.7 cars are completed per day! <p>The engine is brought to life for the first time during this diagnostic test. The test takes two hours in a hot test chamber. It is put through a series of computer based test. The tests check its mechanical linkages, its seals, and its ability to withstand heat.</p>

The body shell in the paint booth before making its journey to the assembly line. It is hand painted by a team of two painters. One painter paints the inside and another paints the exterior. No two painters can paint exactly alike and the finished product will appear flawless only if it is painted by the same person.</p>

<p>A Lamborghini is being put through the roll test, one of the numerous quality check points in the Sant Agata Bolognese Factory. Braking, transmission and the ability to handle speed are checked. Technicians will take the car up to speeds as fast as 100 mph.</p>

    Lamborghini Reventón Roadster – ultimately open Designer piece with uncompromising performance</p>
<p>    Sant&#8217;Agata Bolognese, 14 th September 2009 &#8211; Lamborghini presents the ultimate driving machine among open-top two-seaters – the Reventón Roadster is a sports car of breathtaking fascination, menacing power and uncompromising performance. The 6.5 liter twelve-cylinder generates 493 kW (670 PS), catapulting the Roadster from 0 to 100 Km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 3.4 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 330 KM/h (205 mph). The open-top Reventón is not only one of the fastest, but also one of the most exclusive cars in the world – Lamborghini has limited the series.</p>
<p>    The Lamborghini Reventón is not destined to remain a one-off. Less than 20 Lamborghini friends and collectors will be able to own this extraordinary car and, naturally, enjoy the incomparable pleasure of driving it.</p>
<p>    Each Reventón Roadster will be sold for 1.1 Million Euro (without taxes). Deliveries will begin October 2009.</p>
<p>    &#8220;The Reventón is the most extreme car in the history of the brand,&#8221; comments Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. &#8220;The new Roadster adds an extra emotional component to our combined technological expertise – it unites superior performance with the sensual fascination of open-top driving.&#8221; The Reventón Coupé was presented at the 2007 IAA in Frankfurt and was sold out immediately.</p>
<p>    Open-top sports cars are a tradition at Lamborghini that stretches back over 40 years. In 1968, the company from Sant&#8217;Agata Bolognese built a Miura without a fixed roof as a one-off. The Diablo Roadster appeared in 1995 with its targa roof anchored to the engine cover.</p>
<p>    Sculpture with extreme dynamics</p>
<p>    All Lamborghinis are created with an avantgarde approach to design; a fast-moving technical sculpture. The Reventón Roadster is derived from the same creative thinking as the Coupé. Its designers found their inspiration in aviation – the aggressive wedge shape evokes images of fighter jets.</p>
<p>    The powerful arrowhead form at the front, the mighty air intakes pulled way forward, the broad side skirts, the upwards opening scissor doors and the rear end with its menacing edges – the Roadster is clad in a design of maximum functionality and spectacular clarity. Details set stylish accents, such as headlamps featuring bi-xenon units with LEDs forming the daytime running lights and indicators. The rear lamps are also equipped with LEDs.</p>
<p>    Like the Coupé, the Reventón Roadster measures 4700 mm (185 in.) long. It has<br />
    a wheelbase of 2665 mm (105 in.) and is 2058 mm (81 in.) wide and 1132 mm (45<br />
    in.) high. The driver and passenger seating positions are low and sporty,<br />
    separated by a substantial central tunnel.</p>
<p>    Behind the two seats are two hidden pop-up bars that deploy upwards in just a<br />
    few hundredths of a second in the event of an imminent rollover. A fixed,<br />
    horizontal wing-shaped member behind the seats bears the third brake light. The<br />
    design of the Roadster&#8217;s long back is also quite distinct from that of the Coupé.<br />
    The engine bonnet is virtually horizontal and a total of four windows made from<br />
    glass provide a view of the mighty V12 in all its technical elegance.</p>
<p>    Stiff bodyshell base</p>
<p>    The base bodyshell of the Reventón is already so stiff that the Roadster requires<br />
    only minimal reinforcement. It has a dry weight of only 1690 Kg (3,725 lbs.), just<br />
    25 Kg, (55 lbs.) more than the Coupé.</p>
<p>    Like the Coupé, the cell of the Roadster is made from high-strength steel profile<br />
    and carbon components joined with specialist adhesive and rivets. The bodyshell<br />
    is made almost entirely from carbon fiber elements, with sheet steel used only<br />
    for the outer door skins.</p>
<p>    Exclusive grey paintwork</p>
<p>    A unique paint finish completes the razor sharp design language of the<br />
    Lamborghini Reventón Roadster. For this exclusive special edition, designers<br />
    have created a new shade of matt grey called Reventón Grey. As for the<br />
    Reventón Coupé, which is a slightly different shade of grey, this is a matt paint<br />
    finish that, in the sunlight, displays an unexpected impression of depth thanks to<br />
    its special metal particles.</p>
<p>    The wheels of the Reventón Roadster also incorporate the interplay of matt and<br />
    glossy elements. The five spokes of the rims each bear a Y-form, and on each<br />
    spoke are mounted small crescent-shaped wings made from matte carbon. These<br />
    provide not only an unusual visual impact, but also a turbine effect that further<br />
    improves cooling of the mighty ceramic brake discs.</p>
<p>    Aircraft-style displays</p>
<p>    The interior of the Reventón Roadster conveys the same powerful design as the<br />
    exterior. The cockpit is structured with technical clarity, the interfaces arranged<br />
    for functionality. Like a modern aircraft, the open two-seater no longer has<br />
    classic analogue instrumentation – instead, information is delivered via two<br />
    transreflective and one transmissive liquid-crystal displays.</p>
<p>    The driver can switch between two modes at the touch of a button – one digital<br />
    view with illuminated bars and one level with classic round dials, albeit with<br />
    changing color graphics. Centrally located at the top of the display is the G-force<br />
    meter. It represents the intensity of the forces acting on the Reventón Roadster<br />
    under acceleration, braking and heavy cornering; the same format used in<br />
    Formula 1.</p>
<p>    The instruments are mounted in a casing machined from solid aluminum which is<br />
    housed in a carbon fiber dashboard. The interior displays uncompromisingly<br />
    clean craftsmanship and features a host of carbon fiber applications – e.g. on the<br />
    center tunnel – aluminum, Alcantara and leather. The central panels and the seat<br />
    cushions are perforated, with precision stitching gracing their outer edges.</p>
<p>    Lamborghini has equipped the Reventón Roadster with full options.</p>
<p>    An icon of engine design</p>
<p>    The twelve-cylinder engine that powers the Reventón Roadster is a Lamborghini<br />
    icon – and the technical feature that defines the character of the car. It is one of<br />
    the world&#8217;s most powerful naturally-aspirated engines. With a compression ratio<br />
    of 11 : 1 and a displacement of 6496 cc (396.41) it generates 670 PS (493 kW)<br />
    at 8,000 rpm. Its maximum torque of 660 Nm (487 lb-ft) kicks in at 6,000 rpm.</p>
<p>    The V12 engine is a masterpiece of Italian engineering. Two chains drive its four<br />
    camshafts that, in turn, operate the 48 valves. Together with the three-phase<br />
    adjustable intake manifold, the variable valve timing delivers a meaty torque<br />
    build-up. Dry sump lubrication ensures that the hi-tech power unit has a constant<br />
    supply of oil, even under heavy lateral acceleration. The absence of the oil sump<br />
    means a low mounting position – benefitting the car&#8217;s outstanding handling<br />
    characteristics.</p>
<p>    The V12 catapults the Reventón Roadster from 0 to 100 Km/h (0 to 62 mph) in<br />
    3.4 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 330 Km/h (205 mph). It reacts with<br />
    the eagerness of a racing engine to input from the right foot, revving to 8,000<br />
    rpm and beyond, and performing a symphony that sends shudders along the<br />
    spine. The deep booming bass, the powerful mid-range and the exultant horn<br />
    section play music that, once heard, can never be forgotten.</p>
<p>    All-wheel drive for maximum traction</p>
<p>    In classic Lamborghini style, the aluminum engine is mounted longitudinally in<br />
    front of the rear axle, with the transmission ahead of it beneath the center<br />
    tunnel. This layout results in 58 percent of the overall weight being borne by the<br />
    rear wheels – ideal for a powerful sports car.</p>
<p>    This layout accommodates the Viscous Traction permanent all-wheel drive.<br />
    Under normal conditions, it sends the vast majority of the driving force to the<br />
    rear wheels. Should they begin to spin, the central viscous coupling sends up to<br />
    35 percent of the power via an additional shaft to the front axle. Limited-slip<br />
    differentials are located there and at the rear axle with 25 and 45 percent lock<br />
    respectively.</p>
<p>    Lamborghini introduced the all-wheel drive principle with the Diablo. The reason<br />
    back then was just as clear as it is today &#8211; four driven wheels grip far better than</p>
<p>    two, and the more powerful the engine, the greater the impact of this<br />
    fundamental law of physics.</p>
<p>    Also standard on the Reventón Roadster is the e.gear automated six-speed<br />
    sequential manual transmission. The driver controls the gear shift, which is<br />
    activated hydraulically via two steering wheel paddles. In addition to the<br />
    &#8220;Normal&#8221; mode, the system offers a &#8220;Corsa&#8221; and a &#8220;low adherence&#8221; mode. The<br />
    driver just has to keep his foot to the floor &#8211; the rest is handled by e.gear.</p>
<p>    Running gear layout from motorsport</p>
<p>    The Reventón Roadster keeps the extreme power of its engine in check with a<br />
    running gear layout derived directly from motorsport. Each wheel boasts double<br />
    wishbone suspension, with one spring strut on each side of the front axle and two<br />
    each at the rear. The front end of the car can be raised by 40 mm (about 1.6 in.)<br />
    to protect the underside of the vehicle over potholes or on steep entrances into<br />
    underground garages.</p>
<p>    The open two-seater runs on 18-inch wheels. The front tires measure 245/35,<br />
    while the rears are 335/30. Dedicated air channels in the bodyshell cool the four<br />
    wheel brakes. Carbon-fiber ceramic discs are standard – they have an extremely<br />
    lightweight construction, operate with virtually no fade, are corrosion-free and<br />
    achieve the highest service life. Each disc has a diameter of 380 mm (~15 in.) and<br />
    is gripped by six-piston calipers.</p>
<p>    As fast as the open two-seater may be, its road manners are impeccable. Its<br />
    performance limits are extremely high, yet effortless to control. And, on exiting a<br />
    bend, all four wheels stick tenaciously to the asphalt. The permanent all-wheel<br />
    drive dovetails the car firmly with the road, delivering decisive benefits in<br />
    traction and stability.</p>
<p>    High-performance aerodynamics</p>
<p>    A further distinctive characteristic of the Reventón Roadster is its calm<br />
    directional stability even at extremely high speeds – a feature that also turns fast<br />
    highway stretches into sheer joy. Alongside the bodyshell design and the smooth<br />
    underbody, which culminates in a powerfully formed diffuser, the rear spoiler<br />
    carries responsibility for downforce. It deploys from the rear edge at about 130<br />
    Km/h (80 mph) and adopts an even steeper angle as of about 220 Km/h (136</p>
<p>    mph). The entire aerodynamic concept – around and through the car – is radically<br />
    laid out for performance.</p>
<p>    State-of the-art development techniques</p>
<p>    Lamborghini used state-of-the-art, highly networked processes to bring the<br />
    Reventón Roadster to life. The design, CAD work and model making that took<br />
    place in the Centro Stile, which opened in 2004, were accompanied continuously<br />
    by specialists and test engineers from the Research &#038; Development Department.</p>
<p>    The Design Department is directly linked to the neighbouring Ufficio Tecnico,<br />
    ensuring rapid implementation of ideas. Lamborghini&#8217;s capabilities also include<br />
    the independent development of the complete electronic platform. This<br />
    incorporates all control units – including those for the V12 and the innovative<br />
    cockpit displays.</p>
<p>    All units of the Reventón Roadster are being built on the Sant&#8217;Agata Bolognese<br />
    production line, with perfect craftsmanship and to the highest levels of quality.</p>

<p>With carbon-fiber body panels and slicer blade wheel designs, it is a jet fighter minus the wings. Interiors match the exteriors and are draped in alcantara leather and carbon fiber. The jet-car is likely to retain the screaming 6.5L V12 that produces 650 bhp and 660Nm of torque although rumors suggest the engine is lifted from the Lp670-2. Performance will be breath taking with 100Km/h in 3.4 seconds while it tops out at over 340Km/h (211mph).</p>
<p>It will be unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt which is just a few days away. expect prices to be extremely exclusive as well. While production will be restricted to 20 units (or 19-one less than the market wants), it is expected to cost US$ 1,750,000 and that is before you get to the options list! While the 12C is a no compromise precision tool, the SLS is a legend reborn. Way back in the 1950&#8217;s the <strong><a href="http://www.madwhips.com/ex-clark-gable-1955-300sl-gullwing-at-bonhams-auction/">Mercedes Benz 300 SL</a></strong> was an absolute scorcher and was the supercar of its time. </p>

The SLS is expected to be softer than the McLaren and will also be a better everyday car. What&#8217;s more, its got lots of style and that legendary history. We haven&#8217;t even started to checkout those amazing Gullwing doors yet! With 571bhp, it is pretty much even on the power stakes as the <strong><a href="http://www.carzi.com/category/ferrari-f458/">Ferrari 458 Italia</a></strong> and the 12C. This is Mercedes&#8217; first in-house supercar (their last one was the SLR and the SL Black is not exactly a supercar) and it also is AMG&#8217;s first.</p>

Once the car was complete, it looks spectacular (it isn&#8217;t to everybody&#8217;s tastes but still) and the party piece doors are a trademark. Prices for this car also hover around the $290,000 mark, again within its rivals. Expect it to go on sale in 2010.</p>
<p>Mercedes have stuck to their full fat 6.3l V8 monster (rather than downsizing) and this block produces a good 571bhp and up to 650Nm of torque. While the power figures are lower compared to the size of the engine, the SLS is no slouch. Standing 60mph will be dealt with in just 3.7 seconds with a top speed hitting 200mph with just a bit of tailwind. Contributing to such raw speed is the new 7-speed Dual Clutch Tranny (DCT) that every car from the EVO X to the GTR to the 458 Italia and even the 12C have in common.</p>

<p>With a curb weight of 1620Kg, we are not quite sure if it can match the 12C and the <strong><a href="http://www.carzi.com/category/ferrari-f458/">Ferrari 458 Italia</a></strong> on agility but we definitely believe that it should be an excellent grand tourer and offer more practicality as an everyday supercar. The rear biased 53:47 weight distribution will definitely provide maximum ability that this chassis has. The chassis itself is made of aluminum and not carbon fibre. This ensures lightness compared to steel chassis of other Mercedes cars. The chassis weighs in at just 241Kgs which is super light but also loses out to carbon fibre bred rivals.</p>
<p>The AMG 6.3L V8 engine&#8217;s power is delivered through an ultra-light carbon-fiber drive shaft at the rear axle – similar to the set-up used on the DTM C-Class touring race car. The dual clutch transmission is used in transaxle configuration and is at the rear for effective weight distribution. Critical suspension components like wishbones, steering knuckles and hub carriers are made from forged aluminium thereby reducing unsprung mass and speeding up response. If AMG high performance brakes are not good enough, composite discs are a high performance option also reducing weight by 40%. The lightweight theme is ised in the 19in and 20 in front-rear wheels respectively. Made using flow forming principle, they reduce unsprung mass.</p>
<p>It will be offered in either Alanite Grey, Alubeam Silver, Syvanite Grey, and a shade of red for the exterior colors, with leather and alcantara on the interior. The interiors follow classic dials and reminds us of the good old 300SL. All we have to wait for now is a grand showdown between the Italia, 12C and the SLS. My pick is the gorgeous Ferrari Italia and I can smell something cooking in Lamborghini&#8217;s camp too!</p>

In essence, the new ’Gullwing’ offers the ideal synthesis of the strengths of Mercedes-Benz and AMG.</p>
<p>The new super sports car from Mercedes-Benz and AMG makes for an alluring proposition with its unrivalled technology package: aluminium spaceframe body with gullwing doors, AMG 6.3-litre V8 front-mid engine developing 420 kW/ 571 hp peak output, 650 Nm of torque and dry sump lubrication, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in a transaxle configuration, sports suspension with aluminium double wishbones and a kerb weight of 1620 kilograms based on the DINstandard – this superlative combination guarantees driving dynamics of the highest order. Design: purist, distinctive and passionate</p>
<p>The distinctive styling of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG enthrals with its passionate sportiness and reinterprets the breathtaking lines of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL – one of the outstanding design icons of the Mercedes-Benz brand. With its purist design the new SLS AMG reflects the philosophy of contemporary sports car engineering: the bonnet which measures just under two metres, the low greenhouse positioned well to the rear and the short rear-end with an extendable aerofoil are just as powerful a reminder of the superlative dynamism as the long wheelbase, the wide track and the large wheels. The short overhangs feed through into the proportions, just as does the design of the super sports car with its low-slung front-mid engine set well back and dual-clutch transmission in transaxle configuration. An undoubted styling highlight comes courtesy of the gullwing doors which lend the SLS AMG its incomparable charisma – making a unique statement in this vehicle segment.</p>
<p>The gullwing doors are not alone in rekindling memories of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL; the hallmark wide radiator grille with the large Mercedes star and the wing-shaped cross fins are a throwback to the front-end of the sports car legend. The three-dimensional, sculptured front-end with its low-set, swept-back front apron set well into the sides lends the ’Gullwing’ its powerful stance on the road. Six large cooling air intakes and the vertically arranged headlamps set well to the outside with their alluring inner ambience provide a dominant aura: the central bi-xenon low-beam headlamp with its metallic wing section is framed at the top by two LED indicators and the LED daytime driving lights at the bottom.</p>
<p><strong>Influences from aircraft construction</strong></p>
<p>Allusions to aircraft construction come courtesy of the prominent Mercedes star, whose tubular section is reminiscent of the air intake on a jet engine when viewed from the side, as well as the long bonnet: as the eye is drawn forward, so the observer becomes more aware of the curve. The design of the four fins with their Silver Shadow finish that adorn the two air outlet grilles on the end of the bonnet create the same visual impression. These aircraft-style lines also visually accelerate the air that flows past – and make the SLS AMG appear extremely dynamic even while stationary.</p>
<p>The fins on the bonnet are taken up on the vehicle flanks: the connoisseur also discovers here a hallmark styling feature of the 300 SL. The &#8220;6.3&#8243; lettering placed between the fins provides a clear reference to the high-displacement naturally aspirated V8 engine. The side air outlet feeds through into a stylistically prominent feature line, which together with the convex flanks and the exhilarating surface treatment, combines aesthetics with power. The compact passenger compartment proves as alluring as it is unmistakable. With its high beltline, low side windows and steeply angled windscreen it comes across as a kind of visor. The forward angled B-pillar with its stylish flowing sweep to the rear window exudes pure dynamism.</p>
<p><strong>Side view dominated by muscle and shoulder</strong></p>
<p>Seen from the side, the eye is drawn to the prominent vehicle shoulder of the SLS, which stretches like a taut muscle from the front to the rear. Distinctive 19-inch (front) and 20-inch (rear) light-alloy wheels fill the wheel arches, which stand out prominently from the sidewall. Three different wheel variants all provide a glimpse of the large high-performance composite brakes. Seen from above, a prominent, uninterrupted line runs from the muscle to the rear. This styling feature is also picked up on the bonnet where the eye follows a distinctive contour which flows over the roof between the gullwing doors, right through to the third brake light.</p>
<p><strong>Rear view that emphasizes width</strong></p>
<p>The rear view of the SLS also exudes dynamism and power: the gently sloping boot lid emphasises a sense of width, an impression reinforced by the prominent vehicle shoulder and the sleek tail lights: fitted with LED technology, the horizontally structured lighting units provide a scintillating view. Wing-shaped LED lighting elements ensure a distinctive, enthralling night design. The Formula-1-style LED fog lamp/reversing light is set down low in the centre. Similarly inspired by motor racing are the black diffuser insert and the two chromed tailpipes of the sports exhaust system. The strikingly tapered rear apron provides an unimpeded view of the wide rear wheels, lending the ’Gullwing’ its self-assured stance on the road. The spoiler integrated in the boot lid is automatically deployed from a speed of 120 km/h to ensure optimum stability at high speeds.<br />
New colours: &#8220;AMG ALU-BEAM silver&#8221; and two matt finishes</p>
<p>The colour charts for the SLS include nine exclusive paint finishes. The highlight comes in the shape of the unique &#8220;AMG ALU-BEAM silver&#8221; paintwork: the new, unique process makes the paint shine like liquid metal. The paint covers the body panels like a metallic skin, emphasises the scintillating design lines of the ’Gullwing’ more strongly than any previous paint job and makes them even livelier by means of targeted light reflections. This effect is made possible thanks to tiny pigments measuring between 30 and 50 nanometres.</p>
<p>The two matt finishes &#8220;designo magno allanite grey&#8221; and &#8220;AMG magno sylvanite grey&#8221; are just as eye-catching: with their matt silk surface they reinforce the sporty character of the two-seater through specific contouring of the crease lines.<br />
Interior with allusions to aircraft construction and motor sports practicality</p>
<p>You only need to open the gullwing doors on the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and ease into the sports seats to experience a whole new level of interior. The Mercedes-Benz designers took their inspiration from aircraft construction when styling the interior – immediately bringing an aircraft cockpit to mind. The characteristic styling feature is the dashboard, whose powerful and dramatic wing shape makes for an impression of width. Strikingly integrated into the dashboard are the galvanised air vents with their adjustable, cruciform nozzles and Silver Shadow finish – their shape reminiscent of a jet’s engines. The instrument cluster with its LED upshift indicator and two white backlit dial instruments add another decidedly sporty touch with their metallic Silver Shadow finish. The silver dials have red needles and a 360 km/h speedometer scale. As a central feature of the cockpit, the COMAND APSmultimedia system with its 7-inch screen is integrated between the two centre air vents.</p>
<p>The elongated centre console in matt metal similarly picks up on the design theme of the aircraft cockpit. It is home to the AMGDRIVE UNIT, which is inclined towards the SLSdriver and allows them to choose their very own vehicle setup. The E-SELECT shift lever, whose styling recalls the thrust control of a jet, controls the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission. All the controls are made out of solid metal, with a high-sheen Silver Shadow surface.</p>
<p>The concave inner panels of the gullwing doors, the high beltline and the powerful side sill panels round off the cockpit-like impression, while imparting a feeling of sports car-like ergonomics. Fine materials such as nappa leather, solid metal and (optional) genuine carbon-fibre facings underline the pronounced &#8220;custom-built&#8221; nature of the SLS interior, and show enormous attention to detail. Five different designo leather colours are available to meet individual preferences: black, classic red, sand, porcelain and light brown.<br />
Wide-opening gullwing doors for easy entry</p>
<p>Despite the low sitting position of just 369 millimetres in typical sports car fashion, the wide-opening gullwing doors make it easy to get in and out of the vehicle. At the design stage great attention was paid to the widest possible opening angle – it is a full 70 degrees. Equally importantly, the distance between the open doors and the road surface is a generous 1.50 metres, while the entry aperture between the open doors and the upper edge of the door sills measures no less than 1.08 metres. The entrance height, i.e. the distance between the road surface and the upper edge of the door sills is a very low 45 centimetres. As another important criterion for dignified access and egress, two gas-pressure struts positioned next to the door hinges require only very little pressure when opening and closing the doors – even at very low ambient temperatures.</p>
<p>The gullwing doors require less opening space than conventional coupé doors, and can be fully opened in a normal garage. The door is opened from inside by a handle finished in Silver Shadow. The grip section of the armrest moulded into the interior door panel ensures problem-free door closing. The operating buttons for the power windows, central locking system and exterior mirror adjustment are also located in the interior door panels for easy access. The feeling of comfortable spaciousness is in large measure due to the generous shoulder-room of 1483 millimetres and elbow room of no less than 1606 millimetres. In conjunction with the generous maximum headroom of 990 millimetres and effective legroom for the driver of 1058 millimetres, the result is a low but extremely relaxed seating position. At the same time the intentionally steep angle of the windscreen ensures good all-round visibility for the passengers.<br />
Sports seats with magnesium backrests</p>
<p>The sports seat backrests are made from magnesium, a high-tech material that combines light weight with high strength. This leads to significant advantages where weight distribution and a low centre of gravity are concerned. The sports seats feature so-called two-zone seat cushions. Prominent side bolsters with a harder foam filling provide optimal lateral support, while the inner areas of the seat cushion and backrest are softer for a high level of comfort on long journeys. In conjunction with the Memory package (optional), the fore-and-aft position, seat height, backrest angle, squab angle and steering column are electrically adjustable; three individual settings can also be stored.</p>
<p>Four-way lumbar supports reliably protect the lower spine, while adjustable side bolsters in the backrests effectively improve lateral support on fast bends. Three-stage seat heating and seat occupancy/child seat recognition in the passenger seat are also standard equipment.</p>
<p>The sports seats with integrated head restraints and sporty transverse fluting are upholstered in designo leather – and two-tone seats are also available in classic red, sand and porcelain. If light brown is chosen as an interior colour, the sports seats are upholstered in natural leather with particularly high-quality woven leather on the centre seat panels. Depending on the colour combination, fluorescent or black piping provides another sporty touch.</p>
<p>The Performance leather steering wheel in a three-spoke design has a 365-millimetre rim with a flattened lower section, shift paddles and a metal insert, underlining the authentic custom-built look and ensuring the best possible vehicle control.<br />
A host of stowage space for hallmark Mercedes day-to-day suitability</p>
<p>The interior of the SLS AMG also impresses with the practical stowage space that makes for the day-to-day suitability typical of a Mercedes. The 3.7-litre glove compartment with a spectacles section is integrated into the dashboard on the passenger side. To the right of the E-SELECT shift lever there is a small stowage tray with a 12 V socket, or an ashtray with cigar lighter. The armrest behind the centre console not only serves to operate the COMAND Controller: at the touch of a button, the armrest can be moved in two stages to reveal a stowage compartment underneath. This has two cupholders and the telephone cradle (optional), and a holder for the ignition key in the rear section. Other items can be stowed on the rear wall between the seats and in the parcel net in the passenger footwell. Two fixed clothes hooks are attached to the seat backrests, while those in the roof liner fold down and are silicon-insulated.</p>
<p>The button to unlock the boot lid is located underneath the light switch. Alternatively the boot can be opened using the ignition key. The luggage compartment can hold up to 176 litres. A made-to-measure luggage set is available as an option, which enables the boot space to be used to full advantage.</p>

<p><strong>Aluminum space frame for lightweight design and outstanding strength</strong></p>
<p>The SLS is also breaking the mould when it comes to the body concept: for the first time, Mercedes-Benz and AMG are presenting a car with an aluminium chassis and body. Compared with the traditional steel design, this results in a significant weight saving, clearly illustrated in the DIN kerb weight of 1620 kilograms.</p>
<p>The newly developed body shell comprises an aluminum space frame. This exclusive design combines intelligent lightweight design with outstanding strength – thus delivering superlative driving dynamics. Lightweight aluminum sections connect the force nodes to a sturdy structure. The large, low-set cross-sections of these aluminum sections ensure high resistance torque, thus providing the required direct transfer of drive, braking and suspension forces. The structure prevents unwanted flexibility; the vehicle responds rigidly, almost without twisting and directly.</p>
<p>45 percent of the intelligent, weight-optimised aluminium spaceframe is made out of aluminium sections, 31 percent out of aluminium sheet, 20 percent out of aluminium cast and 4 percent out of steel. Maximum occupant safety requires the use of ultra-high-strength, heat-formed steel in the A-pillars. The bodyshell weighs 241 kilograms – an absolute benchmark in the super sports car segment when compared with the peak output of 420 kW/571 hp.</p>
<p><strong>Low center of gravity and transverse reinforcing struts for superb dynamism<br />
</strong><br />
The entire vehicle concept has been designed to achieve a centre of gravity that is as low as possible. This applies both to the low connection of the powertrain and axles as well as to the arrangement of the stiffness-relevant bodyshell structure, which has been kept as low as possible. Examples include the rigid flexural and torque connections between the front and rear section and the safety passenger cell, which have been realised consistently using force paths that are as low as possible. This results not only in a low centre of gravity but also a harmonious and, thus, efficient force path in the vehicle structure.</p>
<p>Another prominent feature of the lightweight construction design is the transverse reinforcing struts at the front and rear axle that are integrated into the bodyshell structure. The sections connect the side members precisely where the highest forces act upon the bodyshell under dynamic cornering. The advantages of this sophisticated solution include unrivalled transverse rigidity and the absence of heavy secondary stiffening or supports.</p>
<p><strong>Passive safety of the very highest caliber<br />
</strong><br />
Naturally, the aluminium spaceframe meets all the requirements in terms of passive safety and the hallmark Mercedes-Benz body quality that applies to any car sporting the Mercedes star. The best possible passive safety for the occupants is ensured by the standard-fit three-point seat belts, belt tensioners, belt force limiters and eight airbags: two adaptive airbags and a kneebag each are available for the driver and passenger. Two sidebags integrated into the seats and two separate windowbags that deploy from the door waistline are also available.<br />
Fine-tuned AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine developing 420 kW/571 hp</p>
<p>A powerful eight-cylinder engine manufactured by Mercedes-AMG forms the heart of the new SLS. The fine-tuned 6.3-litre V8 engine develops 420 kW/571 hp at 6800 rpm, turning the SLS AMGinto one of the most powerful sports cars in its segment. A power-to-weight ratio of 2.84 kg/hp comes courtesy of the low vehicle weight. The naturally aspirated engine delivers maximum torque of 650 Nm at 4750 rpm. The ’Gullwing’ accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, before going on to a top speed electronically limited to 317 km/h (all figures are provisional). Bearing the internal designation M 159, the V8 high-revving engine with its displacement of 6208 cubic centimetres has been thoroughly reengineered compared with the M 156 entry-level engine and boasts all the hallmarks of powerful racing engines.</p>
<p>The principal measures in increasing output include the all-new intake system, the reworked valve train and camshafts, the use of flow-optimised tubular steel headers and the de-throttling of the exhaust system. This results in much better cylinder charging, which feeds through into an increase in output of almost nine percent. The eight-cylinder engine responds swiftly to movements of the accelerator pedal, demonstrating much more pronounced high-revving flexibility across the entire rev range. The switch to dry sump lubrication also translates into a much lower position of the engine in the vehicle. And lowering the vehicle’s centre of gravity has also paved the way for high lateral acceleration and exhilarating driving dynamics.<br />
Perfect synthesis of lightweight design and strength</p>
<p>The use of high-strength components compensates for the increased engine load associated with the higher output. Forged pistons, a reinforced crankshaft bearing, optimised crankcase structure, along with improved lubrication thanks to an on?demand high-performance oil pump ensure optimum durability. Despite these higher loads, the engine weight for the M 159 has been further reduced. The forged pistons as oscillating masses play a particularly valuable role in this respect, resulting in a kerb weight of 205 kilograms and, in turn, a power-to-weight ratio of 0.36 kg/hp – an unrivalled figure compared with the competition. Sophisticated catalytic converter technology enables current and future exhaust emission standards such as EU 5, LEV 2 and ULEV to be met.</p>
<p><strong>A match for demanding fuel consumption targets<br />
</strong><br />
Despite its uncompromisingly sporty character, the demanding fuel consumption targets have been met. The SLS AMGconsumes 13.2 litres per 100 kilometres (combined, provisional figure), earning it a place at the top of the competitor rankings. Efficiency-enhancing measures include the familiar AMG-exclusive, friction-optimised twin-wire-arc-sprayed coating on the cylinder walls as well as the on-demand, map-optimised oil supply and intelligent generator management: during the engine’s overrun phases and braking, kinetic energy is used to charge the battery, rather than being wasted by simply generating heat. This recuperation assists the driver not only during braking action but also helps convert the braking energy into electrical energy. Conversely, the generator is switched to no-load operation during acceleration, thus reducing the load on the engine.</p>
<p><strong>Dual-clutch transmission with transaxle configuration and torque tube<br />
</strong><br />
The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine delivers its abundant power via an ultra-light carbon-fibre driveshaft at the rear axle – similar to the set-up used on the DTM C-Class racing touring car. The dual-clutch transmission is mounted at the rear (transaxle principle) and is connected to the engine housing via a torque tube. A carbon-fibre shaft rotates at engine speed in the torque tube. The advantages of this sophisticated solution are associated with the rigid link between the engine and trans-mission and, in turn, the optimum support for the forces and torque generated.</p>
<p>A new AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission takes care of power transfer. The dual-clutch transmission boasts fast gear changes with no loss of tractive force – in as little as 100 milliseconds. The driver has a choice of four different driving modes: &#8220;C&#8221; (Controlled Efficiency), &#8220;S&#8221; (Sport), &#8220;S+&#8221; (Sport plus) or &#8220;M&#8221; (Manual) along with a RACESTART function. In the Sport, Sport plus and Manual modes the automatic double-declutching function is active; all the modes can be selected conveniently via the rotary control in the AMG DRIVE UNIT. Optimum traction comes courtesy of the mechanical differential lock, which is integrated in the compact transmission casing.<br />
Sophisticated suspension layout with double-wishbone axles</p>
<p>The chosen solution with a front-mid engine plus transaxle configuration ensures an ideal front/rear weight distribution of 47 to 53 percent. Mounting the engine behind the front axle has created the ideal conditions for consummate driving dynamics with precise steering, first-class agility, low inertia with spontaneous directional changes and outstanding traction. The commitment of Mercedes-Benz and AMG to building an alluring super sports car that combines consummate racetrack performance with hallmark Mercedes long-distance comfort has given rise to an ingenious suspension layout. All four wheels are located on double wishbones with a track rod, a technology that has proven itself in motor racing, right through to Formula 1. With a double-wishbone axle, the wheel location and suspension function remain separate; the spring/damper struts are supported on the lower wishbone. The double-wishbone concept with its high camber and track rigidity positively locates the wheel with minimal elastic movements, providing the driver with an optimum sense of road contact when driving at the limits.</p>
<p>Wishbones, steering knuckles and hub carriers at the front and rear are made entirely from forged aluminium – substantially reducing the unsprung masses; this configuration also notably improves the suspension response. The long wheelbase of 2680 millimetres not only results in outstanding straight-line stability but also low wheel load shifts, significantly reducing the vehicle’s tendency to dive and squat. The broad track width – front 1682, rear 1653 millimetres – ensures lower shifts in the wheel loads from the inner to the outer wheel when cornering, enabling the tyres to retain more grip. The large caster angle of 11.5 degrees significantly increases negative wheel camber when cornering and also improves tyre grip – this also ensures outstanding stability when braking heavily while cornering.<br />
Direct steering, differential lock and 3-stage ESP®</p>
<p>The rack-and-pinion steering gear provides a consistently direct steering feel with a constant mechanical ratio of 13.6:1, in tune with the high expectations placed on a super sports car. The power steering provides speed-sensitive assistance and improves the feedback for the driver as the road speed increases: an indispensable factor for high-speed straight-line driving. Mounting the steering gear in front of the engine on the integral subframe enables the engine to be set down very low. The ’Gullwing’ comes with 3-stage ESP® as standard, providing the driver with access to the three &#8220;ESP ON&#8221;, &#8220;ESP SPORT&#8221; and &#8220;ESP OFF&#8221; modes at the push of a button. The result is even more driving pleasure without compromising active safety at all. In &#8220;ESP OFF&#8221; mode too, operating the brake pedal restores all the normal ESP® functions.</p>
<p>The system’s traction logic of the acceleration skid control system (ASR) is active in all three ESP®modes. If one of the drive wheels starts to spin, specific brake pressure is applied to improve traction notably – especially in conjunction with the standard-fit mechanical multi-disc limited-slip differential. This means that the engine power is transferred to the road even more effectively when driving in a particularly dynamic style.<br />
Ceramic composite brakes, innovative flow-forming wheels</p>
<p>The AMGhigh-performance braking system with composite brake discs at the front ensures extremely short stopping distances even under enormous loads. The newly developed, optional ceramic composite brakes with larger brake discs guarantee even better brake performance. The ceramic brake discs will perform reliably at even higher operating temperatures thanks to their greater hardness, all combined with an impressive weight reduction of around 40 percent. Reducing the unsprung masses has further optimised the handling of the ’Gullwing’ – which pays dividends particularly when tackling fast bends on motorways.</p>
<p>Lightweight construction was also key when it came to the wheels: weight-optimised AMG light-alloy wheels – 9.5 x 19 inch (front) and 11.0 x 20 inch (rear) – based on the innovative flow-forming principle reduce the unsprung masses while increasing driving dynamics and suspension comfort. In addition to the standard-fit AMG 7-spoke light-alloy wheels, 5-twin-spoke wheels and 10-spoke forged wheels are available as an option. 265/35 R 19 (front) and 295/30 R 20 (rear) tyres developed exclusively for the SLS AMG ensure optimum performance. A tyre pressure monitoring system is fitted as standard to permanently monitor tyre pressure in all four wheels; individual tyres are shown on the display.</p>
<p>The reinterpretation of the legendary ’Gullwing’ is scheduled to be launched in spring 2010. The sales price is EUR 177,310 (incl. 19% VAT).</p>

<p>2009 is shaping up to be quite the year of some hot new supercars! We have been still catching our breath from the stunning <strong><a href="http://www.carzi.com/2009/07/29/ferrari-f458-italia-pictures-video/">Ferrari 458 Italia</a></strong> and now we have the successor to the car that has remained unbeaten for the longest period ever! Yup, The McLaren F1&#8217;s successor has finally been revealed in the form of the MP4-12C (sounds like McLaren&#8217;s F-1 car doesnt it?). Remember how McLaren and Mercedes played together to produce the beautiful <strong><a href="http://www.madwhips.com/mclaren-slr/">Mercedes McLaren SLR</a></strong>. Both companies have now retired their partnership and are back on their own. Mercedes has it&#8217;s SLS Gullwing making its official public debut this week as well! Forget about the economy and recessions, this year will be remembered as one of the closest supercar battles of recent times among supercar enthusiasts!</p>

<p>Priced to compete with the 458 Italia, Aston&#8217;s DB9 and the forthcoming SLS Gullwing, the 12C will have its work cut out. It is expected to put out in excess of 600bhp beating all its rivals and taking the game to a higher level. So is the magic of the F1 still there or is this &#8216;just another&#8217; fancy overpriced ballistic grade supercar? </p>
<p>Lets start with where the McLaren F1 left off. When the F1 came in, it was the ultimate car of its time. It was un-compromised in every aspect and was quite literally the Veyron of its time. The 12C on the other hand is here to redefine supercars in the same way that the 458 is supposed to. It is aerodynamically efficient and boasts of advanced manufacturing methods. The C12 is expected to carry a price tag of around $ 280,000 bang in the middle of Ferrari&#8217;s and Lamborghinis (a bit higher than the 458 though). How is this price justified?</p>

<p>The 12C goes back to the F1&#8217;s setup of mid-engine rear drive as compared to Mercedes&#8217; front engine rear drive. This time though, the 12C carries a 3.8l Twin-Turbocharged V8 engine (600bhp) as opposed to the naturally aspirated BMW unit on the F1. To give you an idea, the 458 Italia has 560+bhp and the SLS 578! Mclaren have decided to go with a Double clutch gearbox which is the norm these days. McLaren insists that this engine has been made in-house with no involvement of AMG. 12C can hit 60mph in around 3 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 200mph.</p>
<p>The car, while not as radical looking as the Italia or a Lambo, the 12C&#8217;s designer Frank Stephenson says that it was never intended to be. He says in-your-face supercar styling can be “wearing and boorish” and risks becoming dated while “Great design looks relevant years later,”. The car is styled on purpose. The profile is  very similar to the F1 with many elements from like the scoops and rear windscreen bear more than a passing resemblance to the F1. It also has a simple smiling face, much like the F430. The pillars have been designed for perfect air flow around them and the radiator inlets are very close to the engine to get rid of complex pipe arrangements. Helping agility is the size of the car that is shorter,narrower and less longer than all its rivals.</p>

<p>We know that carbon fiber forms the main part of all supercar chassis these days but Mclaren have gone one step further. While other supercars sport carbon fiber components bolted together, the 12C has a &#8216;Monocell&#8217; that is a one piece chassis and weighs in at just 80kgs!!! The chassis took 5 years to develop and is expected to filter down to road cars as well. While the chassis is carbon fiber, the body panels are all made out of aluminum extrusions. Why? Because Mclaren say that there is no considerable weight difference and that using Aluminum saves costs which can be used in other areas.</p>

<p>The 12C has electro-hydraulic rack and pinion steering and rides on double wishbone/coil spring suspension at both ends. Usual aids including ABS, ESP, ASC traction control, electronic brake distribution and hill hold are present with to which Mclaren have added something it pioneered in its F1 cars: brake steer, which applies the inside rear brake as the car corners, to aid turning.</p>

<p>The cabin is simply stunning with simple shapes and loads of panache. Everything from the single central Ac vent to the screen on the center console set it apart. The design is not revolutionary yet it grabs attention by pulling the scruff of your neck. Serious drivers will appreciate the seats that are firm and comfortable, and the dihedral doors slope up and away from the kerb as they open (again F1 style).</p>

<p>On the whole, McLaren&#8217;s attempt is very safe and logical. They have not created a car to take on the Veyron but just created one that will be very fast and technologically advanced as per the F1 marquee. McLaren aim to make 1000 of the 12C&#8217;s every year and will put their supercar on sale in 2011. So the 458 Italia or the 12C? Which one is your pick?</p>

<p>What you might or might not know is that this has been 15 year dream come true for Luc Chartrand (Creator, Owner, Designer) of the <strong><a href="http://www.madwhips.com/htt-plethore/">HTT PLETHORE</a></strong> LC 750. Blood, sweat and many tears have been poured into this extravagant Canadian Supercar.</p>

<p>Photographs do not fully capture how aggressive this car looks let alone the feeling that comes over you when you first see this monster in the flesh! Although the car is not 100% complete is still an engineering masterpiece to behold. Within the next 3 years HTT hopes to be able to release a 1300 BHP version of the PLETHORE which will definitely make the folks over at Bugatti and SSC take note. Carl explained to me that 10 European orders for the car have been confirmed. We await to see this car out and about in Monaco one day during their crazy week leading up to the GP. I do hope you all enjoy the pics and feel the vibe of amazingness that the PLETHORE exudes. </p>

<p>This is the first Canadian super car ever featuring a center seat for the driver (like the <a href="http://www.madwhips.com/australian-mclaren-f1/">McLaren F1</a>).  It houses a supercharged 6.2L V8 which delivers 750 hp (560 kW) (torque 655 lb·ft (888 N·m)). An optional high performance engine with 1100-1300 hp (820 kW) has also been hinted as an option.  The chassis and body is made entirely out of carbon fiber with no engine sub frame resulting in an exceptionally rigid chassis. The car should weigh approximately 2,400 lb (1,089 kg) when fitted to the 1,300 hp (970 kW) engine and will then have the power to weight ratio of a Formula 1 race car!</p>

<p>I don&#8217;t know very many people who own a <strong><a href="http://www.madwhips.com/f40/">Ferrari F40</a></strong>, let alone have their race winning Ferrari F40 hanging upside down on the ceiling (with working headlights) in the bar of their home.  This past January 2009 I made my first trip to Japan to photograph the <strong><a href="http://www.carzi.com/2009/01/13/tokyo-auto-salon-2009-review/">2009 Tokyo Auto Salon Review</a></strong> &#038; <strong><a href="http://www.madwhips.com/event--tokyo-auto-salon-2009/">2009 Tokyo Auto Salon Pictures</a></strong>.  While in Japan I was presented with the opportunity to house visit Ricky Chiba of Team Taisan!</p>

<p>I stayed in Tokyo for 10 days with one of my best friends Adrian Grey, who I grew up with for the first 15 years of my life YET haven&#8217;t seen in the last 15 years due to geography.  Adrian has been in Japan for 8 years is and successfully co-founded the creative agency SET which specializes in unique marketing solutions <a href="http://www.setjapan.com/"><strong>SET Japan</strong></a>. Adrian and Sato San were responsible for hooking me up with this home visit and interview with Tokyo Businessman Yasutsume Chiba also know as Ricky Chiba of Team Taisan.</p>

<p><strong>SIDE NOTE about Adrian and his company SET in JAPAN</strong><br />
For those of you unfamiliar with <strong><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_Code">QR Codes</a></strong> (Quick Response Codes), they are small 1 inch x inch dot matrix (two-dimensional bar code) being used extensively in AsiaEurope as a way to connect consumers with mobile websites. They were initially used for tracking parts in vehicle manufacturing.  These codes are read by your mobile phone&#8217;s camera (when you take a picture of it) which direct you to a specific mobile website for information on a product, service.</p>

SET was asked by Louis Vuitton (<strong><a href="http://setjapan.wordpress.com/2009/04/17/louis-vuitton-qr-code/">See Details HERE</a></strong>) to provide them with a creative QR code in line with a new animation created for them by renowned artist, Takeshi Murakami. The one above was chosen from a final shortlist of options!</p>

SET recently released a new designer QR code produced for MARC BY MARC JACOBS (<strong><a href="http://setjapan.wordpress.com/2009/06/28/marc-jacobs-qr-code/">See Details HERE</a></strong>). Their latest ground-breaking code was hand-drawn to match the feel of the campaign featuring the brand’s mascot Miss Marc and will be used to generate traffic to the soon-to-be-released MARC BY MARC JACOBS mobile website.</p>

<p>Ricky&#8217;s custom built house includes a subterranean garage (Batcave) which house many of his Porsche racing cars which include a 956, 962C, GT2, RSR, GT3R, an Indy car, a pristine Bentley Azure, Vipers, Skylines, Jaguars and more. Ricky Chiba&#8217;s passion for cars and motor sports started at a young age, and he has some of his first pictures drawn by him on display in his house.  His bar area also includes his Porsche 911 996 GT3R winning cup car, the engine from the Ferrari F40 on the ceiling is a center piece under a glass table and race tires converted into coffee tables!</p>

<p><strong>Taisan Kogyi KK</strong> is a group of family owned Engineering companies founded by Ricky Chiba&#8217;s father. The company is internationally known for its range of specialized pumps used in industry &#038; manufacturing, AND naturally for it&#8217;s own motor racing team &#8211; Team Taisan! </p>

<p><strong>Team Taisan</strong> was formed in 1984 and unlike most first ranked motor racing teams, Team Taisan did not have unlimited financial or major motor manufacturer backing.  This is what blows me away and provides further testament to Ricky&#8217;s personal motto &#8220;keep the dream alive&#8221;.  To Ricky, racing is a symbol of life&#8217;s endless challenges &#8211; of the need to always strive to do better, to shoulder disappointments, to sustain an ambition to WIN! AND WIN HE HAS. </p>

<p>Shortly after forming, Team Taisan was quick to enter the lime light by winning the Japanese Sports Car Championship for 3 consecutive years 1985-1987, as well as the Japan Touring Car Championship in 1989.  They went on to win the Japanese Grand Touring Championship (JGTC) in 1995, 1996 &#038; 1998. They have also placed 8th in the INDY 500!</p>
<p>With more than 58 Wins in 25 years of racing (again without major motor backing), it was Ricky Chiba&#8217;s relentless pursuit of his childhood dream coupled with his passion of motor sports which have led to his amazing success to date!</p>
<p>Many thanks once again to Adrian and Sato San for giving me this amazing opportunity to visit with Ricky Chiba: a passionate entrepreneur, and above all a legend!!</p>
