Unladen weight according to the DIN standard is less than 1,500 kg (3,300 lb), the lightweight body comes with special mounts for six-point seat belts and a rollcage fitted behind the B-pillar.

Through its design and construction, the materials used and its special equipment, the BMW M3 GTS is a lightweight performer all the way, offering a genuine motorsport driving experience in every respect. In addition to the carbon fibre roof already featured as standard on the BMW M3, weight is consistently optimised by features such as silencers made of titanium, the extra-light centre console and door linings, the omission of rear seats, automatic air conditioning and an audio system, as well as sound insulation tailored specifically to this very special model.

V8 high-speed power unit: derived from motorsport, optimised for motorsport.

The eight-cylinder power unit of the BMW M3 GTS enlarged in size to 4.4 litres and boosted in output to some 450 hp boasts construction principles and technical details carried over directly from motorsport. A supreme surge of ongoing power throughout a wide range of engine speed characterises the outstanding performance of the V8 with its high-speed concept. The features typical of a motorsport engine include the crankcase made of a special aluminium-silicon alloy and constructed in bedplate design, individual throttle butterflies, anti-knock sensors with ion flow technology, and, wet sump oil supply optimised for supreme driving dynamics.

Seven-speed M DKG Drivelogic with race-bred gearshift.

Power is transmitted in the BMW M3 GTS by the M double-clutch gearbox with Drivelogic also available as an option on the regular production model. This seven-speed M DKG Drivelogic gearbox follows a principle also developed for motorsport, shifting gears without the slightest interruption of engine power. The transmission was developed specifically for a particularly powerful high-speed engine and offers ideal qualities for truly dynamic acceleration at all times. The gearshift characteristics on the seven-speed M DKG Drivelogic have been tailored specifically to the modified power unit of the BMW M3 GTS and the driver is able to shift gears both through the selector lever on the centre console and through special M shift paddles on the steering wheel.

High-performance suspension with purpose-built brakes.

To convey the supreme power of the engine to the road in equally supreme style even under the most extreme conditions, the BMW M3 GTS comes with suspension technology likewise derived from the highest realms of motorsport. While the suspension is based on the front and rear axle of the BMW M3 Coupé, the rear axle subframe is bolted firmly in position and the suspension features adjustment threads on the dampers for individual variation of the inbound and rebound strokes.

The high-performance brake system of the BMW M3 GTS features fixed callipers with six pistons up front and four pistons on the rear wheels. The race-oriented set-up of DSC Dynamic Stability Control naturally considers the supreme dynamic potential of the BMW M3 GTS. Different-sized tyres front and rear running on 19-inch M light-alloy Competition rims in double-spoke design ensure optimum transmission of acceleration and brake forces to the road.

Aerodynamics: optimised components with variable geometry.

To optimize the flow of air and adjust the car’s downforce as required, the BMW M3 GTS comes with a race-oriented front air dam and rear wing. This allows appropriate adjustment of the car’s aerodynamic qualities in motorsport and for other purposes, tailored to the specific profile of the respective track. The air guidance units on the front air dam, for example, may be varied in their geometry, just like the position of the rear wing based on the wing already featured on the BMW 320si raced in the WTCC World Touring Car Championship.

Exterior features such as the BMW kidney grille and the gills at the side finished in chrome on the regular BMW M3 come in special dark eloxy-plated chrome on the BMW M3 GTS.

Special interior for supreme performance and safety.

The interior of the BMW M3 GTS clearly reflects the focus on supreme performance and safety on the race track. The interior features include classic bucket seats, interior trim in carbon and an M steering wheel finished in alcantara. The door and side panels at the rear also come in alcantara, while six-point seat belts delivered with the car for subsequent use, a fire extinguisher and preparation for an emergency-off switch in motorsport round off the wide range of special features inside the car.

Here is the Lambo Monterey Blue BMW 840ci which was seen in the Fast & Furious 4 movie. This was one of many sweet wide body modified BMW’s I saw while at BimmerFest 2009 this year in sunny Santa Barbara, California. The most striking feature of the car is the massive custom made all metal 4″ wide body rear extension!

Just a week after the BMW X6 M made its debut, HARTGE steals the show with their tuned version of the BMW X6. Unlike the X6M which has a highly sophisticated Twin-Turbo V-8 petrol engine, the HARTGE X6 is based on the BMW X6 Xdrive35d and you guessed it right, it’s an oil burning diesel under the bonnet. So let’s see how this one stacks up against the competition.

So if you are not happy with some bit of the X6 or the entire vehicle, then this one is really worth more than a second glance. If the looks of the X6 M are not easy on your eyes, then this one is a step above in terms of looks. The silver shade looks much better than the standard red that the X6 M was shown with. Also, the grilles are covered in cross meshes that make it look that much better.

The front bull bar/front skirts are embossed with longitudinal slats and the fenders get widened wheel arches and vents behind the front wheels that multiply the style quotient. The side skirts are nicely sculpted and blend nicely into the rear section that features an integrated huge diffuser and integrated quadrilateral Stainless-Steel tail pipes. The aerodynamic parts are made from PUR-RIM which is an ultra-lightweight polyurethane plastic.

The main party-piece of the HARTGE X6 is the tuned 3.0 liter Twin Turbocharged diesel engine that puts out 328 bhp and a mammoth 675 Nm (498 ft-lb) of torque! That’s as much as a Ferrari Enzo! The torque combined with a weight of 2,185 kgs can get their X6 to 100 km/h in 6.0 secs (6.9 for the standard model) and on to a top speed of 256 km/h. This does sound like a better alternative to the X6M after all, mainly because this works out to be a little bit cheaper and sports a more economical oil burning engine.

The superior handling characteristics are matched by a HARTGE suspension that lowers the body by 30mm. Couple this to those magnificent 22-inh Classic-2 wheels shod with 295/30 ZR 22 front and 335/25 ZR 22 rear, there seems to be loads of grip available for use. The wheels are a work of art and look stunning. Interior detailing is embellished by carbon paneling used generously and includes a new Hartge 3-spoke steering wheel.

Prices for the X6 HARTGE kit start at 29,353.94 Euros which includes labor and all parts prices. This means that a Hartge tuned X6 should come to around 80,000 Euros, which is definitely lesser than the X65M by around 20,000 Euros. This certainly is the X6 to go for at this price and features!

Herbert Hartge and his team have pushed the skilful stylistic blend of a four-wheel drive vehicle from the SAV segment (below the waistline) and a coupé (above it) into a new dimension. His X6 xDrive35d is more than an extraordinary symbiosis of a high-street thoroughbred and a crossover workhorse. Although the diesel engine with Twin turbocharger is already the most powerful in its class, the specialists from Germany’s Saarland region have breathed on the power plant so it now generates no less than 241 kW (328 hp) at 4400 rpm and a mighty 675 Nm of torque low down at 2000 rpm. At the same time, the emissions remain well within limits for such a powerful vehicle at 220 g/km. Indeed, the X6 xDrive35d from HARTGE uses half a litre less diesel per 100 kilometres than its series counterpart under comparable conditions. Equally impressive are the performance figures. Despite a weight of 2,185 kg, the X6 takes only six seconds to reach 100 km/h and is thus significantly quicker off the mark than the standard xDrive35d (6.9 sec.). The maximum speed – there is no electronic limiter on the HARTGE model – has been measured at 256 km/h.

Visually underscoring the concentrated power hidden beneath the bonnet is the HARTGE aerodynamic kit in high quality PUR-RIM material. Wheel-arch extensions linked by side sills provide sufficient room for the HARTGE suspension, which includes a set of sports springs with or without level-control system for the rear axle and lowering by 30 mm, and the company’s “CLASSIC 2″ wheels (10.5 x 22″ offset 33 at the front and 12 x 22″ offset 23 at the back).

These attractive aluminium wheels are fitted with ultra-wide tyres (295 / 30 ZR 22 at the front and 335 / 25 ZR 22 at the rear). Rounding off the kit are a front spoiler and a rear skirt with an integrated diffuser while carbon casings for the exterior mirrors, stainless-steel tail pieces with quadrilateral tail pipes (large version) left and right for the exhaust system, HARTGE emblems and insignia emphasize the individual outfit of this X6.

The interior is dominated by a sporting atmosphere à la HARTGE. Via the HARTGE 3-spoke leather steering wheel with carbon inserts – alternatively, carbon steering-wheel covers are available – the driver’s glance falls on a 300 km/h speedometer and rev counter with dials in silver metallic and red needles. Plenty of room for personal touches to the “interior architecture” of the X6 is given by a variety of accessories including decor and interior trim, carbon parts for the dashboard and consoles, aluminium foot rest and pedal set, as well as black velour foot and load-area mats.

A full HARTGE conversion for the X6 xDrive35d – including fitment and painting work – costs EUR 29,353.94 including 19% VAT. Naturally, all parts can also be retrofitted individually.

Audi and BMW are at it again! This time though, its not the typical Audi A4 Vs BMW 3 Series racing duel but a similar one on billboards between an Audi A4 and the new BMW M3 Coupe (not exactly apples to apples comparison)! You can check out the cool pictures where BMW’s reply has been posted in close proximity to all Audi hoardings. The battle is taking place in the luxury car battleground of California.

Juggernaut Advertising’s creative work features the BMW M3 with the headline “Checkmate.” and is positioned prominently within the same sightline to westbound traffic as the Audi ad. Juggernaut approached BMW of Santa Monica after identifying a unique and immediate geographical opportunity along the highly trafficked Santa Monica Blvd. corridor between Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.

BMW has been going off-beat with its model range. We first had the X6, then the 5 series GT to be followed up by the 3 series GT and these two – The BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M.

While the M Series brand is under criticism for these 2 new models during concepts and market testing, they have been both equally well received at the New York Auto Show. To ensure BMW M DNA in every model, BMW has done the unthinkable – They have made M versions of their X5 SUV and X6 SAC. These two models are going after the successful Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Mercedes Benz ML63 AMG.

BMW’s M (Motorsport) division has finally entered into the world of high performance SUV’s. Prices in USA are expected to be in the range of $90,000.

We can now bring the best collection of information, pictures and videos of these two models now that they have been officially released to the public via the 2009 New York Auto Show.

M models require special engines and these two receive the best possible engines out there. They receive a newly developed 4.4 liter Twin-Turbocharged V8 engines that make 555 bhp (408kW) at 6000rpm and a maximum torque of 500 lb-ft (678Nm) between 1500-5650rpm. The turbochargers operate at a maximum boost pressure of 1.5bar. The new M TwinPower Turbo engine is the world’s first engine with a common exhaust manifold encompassing both rows of cylinders and featuring Twin Scroll Twin Turbo Technology.

Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 13.9 litres/ 100 kilometres, equal to 20.3 mpg imp. Their CO2 rating is a whopping 325 grams per kilometre. The engine conforms to all the requirements of the US LEV II standard as well as the EU5 requirements in Europe.

The Engine’s power is transmitted by the use of a 6-speed M Sports shift system. It features a fully automatic mode when you need to cruise but sharpens its response in M-mode for some serious fun. The M-mode can be actuated by pressing a button on the steering wheel or by using the paddles behind the steering wheel. A very useful feature associated with this shiftt system is that the driver maintains full control of the system without any interference from the computers. The engine can be held at its redline before changing the gears which along with the launch control function means some serious performance.

Power is transferred to the road by means of the X-Drive all wheel drive system which feature BMW’s torque vectoring differentials. 100 km/h comes up in just 4.5 seconds and top speed is electronically limitted to 155 mph (250 km/h). Dynamic Performance control, till now only available on the X6 is now available on the X5M too. this, working in conjunction with the X-Drive assists in making it extremely grippy and lets not forget that the weight distribution is a near 50:50.

Grip is further enhanced by the use of massive 20-inch wheels with runflat tires of sizes 275/40 R 20 at the front and 315/35 R 20 at the rear. Special features include ABS brakes, trailer stability control, Servotronic steering, an electronic parking brake with autohold and hill descent control. Other nice stuff includes rain sensors, cruise control, iDrive, adaptive xenon headlights and rear view cameras.

Both of these all-wheel-drive high-performance sports cars come with a special M cockpit with the instrument cluster featuring a variable pre-warning field in the rev counter, specific vehicle function displays, and white display illumination. They even boast of M seats and an M leather steering wheel. The wide range of standard features includes electrical seat adjustment complete with a memory function and seat heating at the front, two-zone automatic air conditioning, extended Merino leather, a HiFi audio system with 12 loudspeakers and 230 Watt amplifier output, M entry trim, an M footrest, interior trim in brushed Aluminium Shadow on both models as well as a BMW Individual instrument panel finished in leather and automatic operation of the tailgate on the BMW X6 M.

From artist Jon Sibal comes a fantastic concept based off the BMW M1 Homage Concept Car that was revealed back in 2008. With styling cues that can kill the unprepared as well as the interesting use of such a huge wing, I do believe Sibal makes the original Homage car look COMPLETELY boring with this new rendition. Below is his detailed story of how he went about designing the BMW M1 PROCAR Concept.

“As a BMW fanatic, I was excited when BMW Group Design unveiled the design study M1 Hommage Concept Car at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2008 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the legendary M1 by Giugiaro. My first thoughts were “Oh cool, what about the ProCar?”

“Seeing an original M1 dressed in a ProCar body kit in person, I knew a race version of the new M1 could be a very interesting idea. Needless to say, BMW is due for a supercar of their own to compete with the likes of Audi’s R8, Mercedes Benz’s SLR 722, Porsche CGT, Lexus LF-A etc.”

“So I got working on a full rendering on how an M1 Hommage ProCar might look like if it were ever produced.”

The Design Process – Rebirth of an Icon
“I began the process by studying the different angles of the M1 Concept Car to get a feel for the lines, shapes and curvature of the body. And with any BMW concept car, the design and contours are all new which required a ProCar body kit that suits these lines properly. The “flamed surface” is very evident so to properly convert this M1 to the ProCar, all of these design elements needed to be considered. I sketched out a new wide body kit design making sure that it stays true to the BMW design language by continuing the new lines of the concept car. The front fascia was also modified and given the updated ProCar look. So with Photoshop CS, the new design was applied and rendered. The BMW M1 ProCar is basically a raced-out version of the original street M1 so the addition of the race rear wing was important to complete the conversion along with new super deep dish wheels.”

“Regardless of the accuracy of my speculation to the actual BMW Group Design Team’s design, it will just be awesome to see the M1 ProCar tearing up it up in the ‘ring.”

Fuel to the fire
“The day right before I finished the M1 ProCar rendering, BMW announced the BMW M1 Procar revival at Hockenheim.”

Rockstar photographer Jason Thorgalsen followed this BMW X6 M prototype through Los Angeles for 25 miles before the BMW Engineers stopped for gas. Jason reported that under acceleration it was possible to hear the whine of a turbo under the hood.
