5 Years after Ferrari unveiled their F430 challenge production model at the 2005 LA Auto Show, Ferrari throws down (just in time for Xmas) with the introduction of the Ferrari 458 challenge (based off the Ferrari 458 Italia)

Like all challenge cars, the engine remains untouched (V8 with 570hp), but performance upgrades include the vehicles F1 gearbox gearing and significant weight loss via carbon fiber and plastic modifications. Also a 1st for Ferrari track-only challenge cars is the use of an E-Diff electronic differential already employed on the road-going version.

It also has a hardcore race tuned suspension setup, stiffer springs lowered by 50mm, single-rate alloy dampers, centre-nut 19-inch forged wheels, Pirelli slicks, new-generation Brembo CCM2 brakes integrated with the latest ABS system, which debuted on the Ferrari 599XX.

Another first for a Ferrari Challenge model is the adoption of the F1-Trac traction control system, the most sophisticated of its kind, says Ferrari. Developed in-house by the automaker, the F1-Trac system constantly monitors levels of grip for maximum high-performance road holding.

Although the Ferrari 458 challenge was originally presented at the Ferrari Annual Dealer Meeting in July 2010, the Bologna Motor Show world debut marks it’s official production arrival. Ferrari claims that the 458 challenge is 2 seconds faster than the Ferrari 430 Challenge at the Fiorano test track and only 0.2 seconds slower than their military grade Enzo Ferrari, the Ferrari FXX Evoluzione. I am really hoping to catch the 458 challenge

6 dates across North America in 2011 will host these races: Infineon Raceway April 28-May 1, Laguna Seca May 20-22, Canadian F1 Grand Prix in Montreal June 10-12, Toronto IndyCar July 8-10, Lime Rock Park July 29-30 and Homestead Miami September 23-25.

Ferrari’s Corse Clienti department will also be bringing the 599XX, FXX and F1 Clienti programs alongside the Ferrari Challenge action to the Infineon and Laguna Seca events. So I guess that settles it, CarZi will be heading to Laguna Seca in 2011!! Awesome

Justin Bieber was spotted rolling around Los Angeles in his recent birthday gift from P Diddy; a white Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder! Justin was out with his friend Sean Kingston getting frozen Yogurt.

P Diddy had previously promised Justin the keys to his Lamborghini when he turned 16 and although Bieber told People Magazine in March that he thought Diddy was full of shit, looks like he spoke to soon! Usher also gifted him with a brand new Ranger Rover when he turned 16 on March 1st as well.

The brand new McLaren MP4-12C made it’s public world debut last week (July 2-4, 2010) at the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Jenson Button (current F1 World Champion) and Lewis Hamilton (2008 F1 World Champion) entertained the crowds by driving an Orange McLaren Validation Prototype MP4-12C up the Goodwood Hill. In addition to the Validation Prototype on hand, it was also complimented by a MP4-12C rolling chassis which exposes the car’s frame and beautifully crafted carbon fiber tub. McLaren will start to ship out their new supercar from their factory in Woking, England next summer!

RIP “Alexander Djordjevic. Famously known online as ‘VRAlexander’, Alex was a true motorsport enthousiast and a rockstar entrepreneur.

VRAlexander had a tragic accident at the 1st Annual Spectre 341 Challenge hill climb road race event this past weekend (June 26, 2010) in his Porsche 996TT. Very few facts are available at this time, however speculation and rumors suggest there might have been an engine fire failure coupled with a accident involving the non guardrail cliff.

VIRGINA CITY, Nev. — A Las Vegas race car driver was killed when his Porsche slid off a curvy, mountain highway that had been closed to traffic for a sanctioned against-the-clock race.

Alexander Djordjevic, 37, died Saturday afternoon while competing in the Speed by Spectre 341 Challenge near the historic mining town of Virginia City, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen said Monday.

Djordjevic was wearing a seat belt and helmet. But Allen said his silver 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo was traveling at an “extremely high rate of speed” before it rolled down the embankment off state Highway 341, known as Geiger Grade, which connects Reno to Virginia City, around 4:50 p.m.

The sponsor, Spectre Performance, billed the race as pitting “the world’s fastest street cars against the clock in a full throttle blast up a mountain road.”

Djordjevic told KTVN-TV of Reno before the race that it was a “challenge to yourself and your street car to do well.”

The 5.2-mile stretch of highway was closed during the race, Allen said. The company secured the necessary state permit along with approval from Lyon and Storey counties, he said.

Alex came from an entrepreneurial background. Over the years, Alex had secured several patents and founded/co-founded dozens of business ventures. His latest philanthropic venture was the creation of the US Military Charity; a non-profit charity dedicated to help US military troops re-integrate to civilian life from overseas duties.

Spectre Performance announces hill climb road race challenge where the fastest street cars on earth will race up infamous Nevada Highway 341

When: June 25-26, 2010
Where: Nevada Highway 341, South of Virginia City, NV

Ontario, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2010) – Spectre Performance is proud to announce the return of road racing competition to one of the most infamous and challenging mountain roads in America – Nevada Highway 341 – for The 1st annual Speed by Spectre 341 Challenge. The race, scheduled for June 25-26, 2010, will pit the world’s fastest street cars against the clock in a full-throttle blast up a mountain road, which will be closed to the public for the event. The challenge will include Pro-Touring Street Machines, European Exotics, and Highly-Tuned Imports competing for a chance to be crowned King of the Hill.

The Speed by Spectre 341 Challenge is a rare opportunity to drive flat-out on some of the most aggressive and challenging mountain roads in the country, without the worry of oncoming traffic or law enforcement. The course is 5.2 miles long with 22+ turns, a 1,216-foot rise in elevation, steep drop offs and no guardrails! Vehicles must be street-legal and registered. Tires must be DOT legal with at least 3/32? tread depth and a minimum 100 tread wear rating. Qualifying is scheduled for Friday, June 25th. Racing is set for Saturday the 26th.

The original Virginia City Hill Climb was founded in 1972 and ran through 2002. 3. Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV: At a price $450,000 and limited to 350 this will be the Murcielago’s final stage apperance before it’s phased out for a new model. The LP670-4 SV has a 6.0-litre V12 engine that has a power output of a 661 hp and 490 ft-lbs of torque which produces a 0-62mph (100km/h) time of 3.2 seconds. Lamborghini claims the SV can reach 342km/h with it’s optional smaller spoiler or 337km/h with the standard Aeropack wing. Depending on the features that are included, the price for insuring a new Lamborghini Murcielago can be around $2,863.03 per month.

If you are a sports car enthusiast, you understand the amount of time and money that is invested in these high priced powerful fast cars. The high insurance premiums not only reflects the value of the car, but also the high risk such as theft, damage that may require expensive parts replacement, and how expensive it would be if the car were in a accident. Increasing the car’s performance with a powerful engine and transmission also increases insurance premiums. As well, the acceleration rates and top speeds increase the likelihood of an owner speeding that could result in a car accident or a speeding ticket.
