Meccan Exciter Supercar – Preview Photos & Details

Here are all the current Meccan Exciter Supercar renderings released so far. It’s design was just currently completed. All required CAD/CAM drawings and specs have been completed and are ready to proceed with the production of a rolling prototype. There are expected to be 3 versions of the Meccan Exciter available: Hard Top, Targa Top, and a Competition model.

The Meccan Exciter utilizes a tubular chassis with extensive Carbon Fiber body work. The car will house a GM Duramax 6.6L Turbo Diesel engine tuned by Banks Engineering mated to either a Gearfox or Xtrac Sequential transmission. This engine should be tuned to deliver 650hp and 800ft-lbs of torque.

The Meccan Exciter is planned to be built in Toronto Canada at the now decommissioned Downsview Airforce Base. They would sell customer competition cars as well as field their own team. They are currently seeking an investor to fund the build of the first car.

Popa Lucian (aka Sleepy) intended to build this car together with Christopher Mahoney a former superbike racer, who has worked with the team at HTT and helped design the HTT Plethore. Popa graduated top of his class from Machine Engineering Faculty at the Technical University “Gh. Asachi” in Romani and is currently pursuing his masters degree in CAD design.

Ferrari 458 Italia Official Movie

Marussia B2 Photos – Frankfurt 2009

Remember last winter when we presented the Marrusia B1? That’s ok if you didn’t because here is the Marussia B2 live from Frankfurt 2009!

The Marussia B2 is built on the same frame as it’s Marussia B1 predecessor but gets a specially built 3.5L Cosworth V6 which should deliver 420 HP. Don’t forget to check out the Russian E-Go Revolt, yet another new Russian sports car in the works.

Bugatti 16C Galibier Concept Photos & Video

Bugatti unveils the ultimate 4 door ever – The Galibier. Moving on from supercars to four door super sedans, we had the Porsche Panamera and then the Aston Martin Rapide and finally Bugatti is here to remind these two who the boss really is. What you see here is called the Galibier. You can recall that rumors and speculations suggested that it would be called the Bugatti Royale or Bugatti Bordeaux. This is Bugatti’s take on the ultra luxury four door supercar segment and features twin supercharged Veyron engine with 800bhp, nearly unheard of in a 4 door car so far!

Now, before you get too excited on seeing this, the car you see here is not the next Bugatti. This is is just one of many models Bugatti will display in the future to decide on which one to build once the Veyron goes out of production in 2011. The power though, rests from the feedback that Bugatti gets and it needs a lot to convince VW to permit them make this car. It is expected to be revealed at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor show.

Named after one of the most demanding stretches of Alpine roadway along the Tour de France. The same nomenclature was also used for a version of the Bugatti type-57C built between 1937 and 1940. The Galibier concept was just unveiled at the Company’s 100 year celebration in Molsheim, France. Bugatti say it was designed to be “the most exclusive, elegant and powerful four door automobile in the world”. Looking at the car, they certainly have achieved all their goals. There is certainly no car that comes close and again let me remind you that this is just one of the models Bugatti is looking at to move forward.

Bugatti has reinvented itself as the most exclusive automobile maker with the Veyron and now they are going one step forward with the world’s ultimate four door car. The new Galibier is brimming with high level technology. The gorgeous two-tone outer shell is not just for beauty, the dark blue colour is actually handmade carbon fibre while the rest of the body parts are made of polished aluminium that has a ‘look at me’ kind of gloss. Also eye grabbing is the brilliant shimmer that the carbon fibre body shows off when lights hit it. This is hardly surprising afterall Bugatti are one of the first manufacturers to use aluminium for engine blocks, body and wheels.

While the trend now is using classis lines, the Galibier too takes hints from tthe Type 35 that featured a torpedo like body style. It also sports a prominent center spine, clam-shell design from the Type 57. The company’s trademark radiator grill and big LED headlights, very similar to the Veyron, give away the Galibier as Bugatti.

The polished aluminium hood hides the brilliant (and ferociously powerful) 16-cylinder, 8-liter W-config engine and while the Veyron sports 4 turbochargers, the Galibeier’s engine gets two stage supercharging capable of running on ethanol. This engine differs from the Veyron because this is front mounted and has the ability to run in flexi-fueling mode. The Galibier does have a 4 wheel drive system to put all that power down to reach a top speed of 217mph. Stopping power is provided by specially developed carbon ceramic brakes and a new suspension system that is capable of handling such power and size.

Luxury and Bugatti are inseparable and the galibier is no different. It has toned down Veryron interiors as it is understood that this is a 4 door afterall and like the Veyron, it features a powerdial.There is also a removable Parmigiani Reverso Tourbillion clock that can actually be used as a wrist watch when you are not driving.

It is expected to cost a figure almost unheard of for such a car – US$ 1,480,000! You can start saving if VW gives the green light for this model or just wait for the next!

McLaren F1 successor MP4 12C Pics & Details

2009 is shaping up to be quite the year of some hot new supercars! We have been still catching our breath from the stunning Ferrari 458 Italia and now we have the successor to the car that has remained unbeaten for the longest period ever! Yup, The McLaren F1’s successor has finally been revealed in the form of the MP4-12C (sounds like McLaren’s F-1 car doesnt it?). Remember how McLaren and Mercedes played together to produce the beautiful Mercedes McLaren SLR. Both companies have now retired their partnership and are back on their own. Mercedes has it’s SLS Gullwing making its official public debut this week as well! Forget about the economy and recessions, this year will be remembered as one of the closest supercar battles of recent times among supercar enthusiasts!

Priced to compete with the 458 Italia, Aston’s DB9 and the forthcoming SLS Gullwing, the 12C will have its work cut out. It is expected to put out in excess of 600bhp beating all its rivals and taking the game to a higher level. So is the magic of the F1 still there or is this ‘just another’ fancy overpriced ballistic grade supercar?

Lets start with where the McLaren F1 left off. When the F1 came in, it was the ultimate car of its time. It was un-compromised in every aspect and was quite literally the Veyron of its time. The 12C on the other hand is here to redefine supercars in the same way that the 458 is supposed to. It is aerodynamically efficient and boasts of advanced manufacturing methods. The C12 is expected to carry a price tag of around $ 280,000 bang in the middle of Ferrari’s and Lamborghinis (a bit higher than the 458 though). How is this price justified?

The 12C goes back to the F1’s setup of mid-engine rear drive as compared to Mercedes’ front engine rear drive. This time though, the 12C carries a 3.8l Twin-Turbocharged V8 engine (600bhp) as opposed to the naturally aspirated BMW unit on the F1. To give you an idea, the 458 Italia has 560+bhp and the SLS 578! Mclaren have decided to go with a Double clutch gearbox which is the norm these days. McLaren insists that this engine has been made in-house with no involvement of AMG. 12C can hit 60mph in around 3 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 200mph.

The car, while not as radical looking as the Italia or a Lambo, the 12C’s designer Frank Stephenson says that it was never intended to be. He says in-your-face supercar styling can be “wearing and boorish” and risks becoming dated while “Great design looks relevant years later,”. The car is styled on purpose. The profile is very similar to the F1 with many elements from like the scoops and rear windscreen bear more than a passing resemblance to the F1. It also has a simple smiling face, much like the F430. The pillars have been designed for perfect air flow around them and the radiator inlets are very close to the engine to get rid of complex pipe arrangements. Helping agility is the size of the car that is shorter,narrower and less longer than all its rivals.

We know that carbon fiber forms the main part of all supercar chassis these days but Mclaren have gone one step further. While other supercars sport carbon fiber components bolted together, the 12C has a ‘Monocell’ that is a one piece chassis and weighs in at just 80kgs!!! The chassis took 5 years to develop and is expected to filter down to road cars as well. While the chassis is carbon fiber, the body panels are all made out of aluminum extrusions. Why? Because Mclaren say that there is no considerable weight difference and that using Aluminum saves costs which can be used in other areas.

The 12C has electro-hydraulic rack and pinion steering and rides on double wishbone/coil spring suspension at both ends. Usual aids including ABS, ESP, ASC traction control, electronic brake distribution and hill hold are present with to which Mclaren have added something it pioneered in its F1 cars: brake steer, which applies the inside rear brake as the car corners, to aid turning.

The cabin is simply stunning with simple shapes and loads of panache. Everything from the single central Ac vent to the screen on the center console set it apart. The design is not revolutionary yet it grabs attention by pulling the scruff of your neck. Serious drivers will appreciate the seats that are firm and comfortable, and the dihedral doors slope up and away from the kerb as they open (again F1 style).

On the whole, McLaren’s attempt is very safe and logical. They have not created a car to take on the Veyron but just created one that will be very fast and technologically advanced as per the F1 marquee. McLaren aim to make 1000 of the 12C’s every year and will put their supercar on sale in 2011. So the 458 Italia or the 12C? Which one is your pick?

HTT Plethore Pictures

I was invited by Carl Descoteaux who is one of the owners of HTT Technologies to attend the Canadian Press release for the HTT PLETHORE LC 750. It is a 750 BHP monster that was born and bread in St-Eustache, Quebec in Canada. What a perfect day it was for the unveiling. We started shooting around 4 pm just as the sun started to set creating some excellent lighting conditions.

What you might or might not know is that this has been 15 year dream come true for Luc Chartrand (Creator, Owner, Designer) of the HTT PLETHORE LC 750. Blood, sweat and many tears have been poured into this extravagant Canadian Supercar.

Photographs do not fully capture how aggressive this car looks let alone the feeling that comes over you when you first see this monster in the flesh! Although the car is not 100% complete is still an engineering masterpiece to behold. Within the next 3 years HTT hopes to be able to release a 1300 BHP version of the PLETHORE which will definitely make the folks over at Bugatti and SSC take note. Carl explained to me that 10 European orders for the car have been confirmed. We await to see this car out and about in Monaco one day during their crazy week leading up to the GP. I do hope you all enjoy the pics and feel the vibe of amazingness that the PLETHORE exudes.

This is the first Canadian super car ever featuring a center seat for the driver (like the McLaren F1). It houses a supercharged 6.2L V8 which delivers 750 hp (560 kW) (torque 655 lb·ft (888 N·m)). An optional high performance engine with 1100-1300 hp (820 kW) has also been hinted as an option. The chassis and body is made entirely out of carbon fiber with no engine sub frame resulting in an exceptionally rigid chassis. The car should weigh approximately 2,400 lb (1,089 kg) when fitted to the 1,300 hp (970 kW) engine and will then have the power to weight ratio of a Formula 1 race car!

Zenvo ST1 Video

Josh Mcrae covered the Zenvo ST1 Pictures when released, and now we have a video of the new Danish supercar in action! Denmark’s first supercar has 1104hp produced by a rear mounted turbo & supercharged 7.0L V8. It delivers 1054 ft-lbs (1430Nm) of torque at 4500 rpm which means 0-100km/h (62mph) is accomplished in under 3 seconds! Electronic speed limiter is set for 375 km/h (233 mph). ENOUGH FOREPLAY JUST WATCH THE VIDEO!

Stile Bertone Mantide Pictures & Details

Having a Lamborghinior Ferrari are not necessarily the hottest toys on the block, especially if somebody else turns up in this Mantide. It gets more eyeballs than any other car on the planet right now and all of that is down to the way this thing looks. Its an insane piece of design that is based on the already mad Chevy Corvette ZR1 and comes from Jason Castriota who designed the Ferrari P4/5.

Not only is Jason the man behind this radical 1 off design but he is also the new director at Stile Bertone. Its called the Mantide, pronounced Man-ti-deh (not Man-tide) and the best bit is that this is not a concept, but a one off supercar for anybody who can afford it!

The car is visually, miles apart from the Corvette and the only styling cues that are barely visible are the front windscreen and the taper of the teardrop rear windscreen. It looks like its landed from Mars and the person who you has been overtaken by this will most probable crash somewhere after looking at it’s rear styling. Its that futuristic, different and exclusive. Every bit on the car is all about making a style statement. Its aerodynamic too and has a drag coefficient that is 25% lesser than the ZR1 and the shape generates 30% more down force.

When Castriota spoke to Top Gear USA last year, he said that the Mantide ‘draws inspiration from modern aerospace and the world of Formula One’. We beg FIA to feature this as the safety car for F1 or still better, start a new one make racing series featuring this car.

With the slippery shape and carbon fiber used for body, wheels, seats and everything you can think of, it is 100 kg lighter than the ZR1 and remarkable faster as well. While the ZR1 is no slouch, the Mantide can do 0-100km/h (62mph) in 3.2 seconds and go all the way to 217mph (compared to the ZR1’s 3.5 sec and 205 mph). Couple this with a four point racing harnesses and a FIA roll cage, you have one serious racing machine.

While the car is a one-off, the cost will depend on how many zeros you add before you faint. So dont bother, the Chinese will make a copy anyway and wait for that! It is certain to be more than the $3 million price tag of the P4/5.

Spyker Owner Alexander Antonov Banker Shot

An unidentified Russian hitman fired several rounds and seriously wounded Spyker owner Alexander Antonov and his body guard in Moscow on Wednesday March 18, 2009. Alexander is also the chairman of board of a Russian banking group called Konvers Group.

“A. Y. Antonov was injured, and he and his security guard are in intensive care,” RIA Novosti quoted Viktoria Tsiplenkova, an investigator with the General Prosecutors’ Investigative Committee as saying.

RIA quoted another investigator, Anatoly Bagmet, as saying the attack was likely linked with Antonov’s professional activities.

Koenigsegg Quant Concept Pictures

Koenigsegg maker of the amazing CCX and CCXR (Pictures & Video) released their new Koenigsegg Quant Concept. It is a 4 seat solar & electric supercar designed by the automaker and solar energy specialists NLV Solar.

Production version is estimated to have a 500 km (311 mile) range, with batteries able to charge in 20 minutes. Total weight of the vehicle is 1780kgs (3916 lbs).

Power will come from a twin motor setup weighing 140 kg, which will deliver 512 bhp and a wicked 715 Nm of torque, do 0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds and reach a potential top speed of 275 km/h. The rear-wheel drive car weighs in at 1780 kg

Tramontana R Pictures & Video

The Tramontana R is the latest open wheel 2 seater roadster which houses a Mercedes-Benz 5.5L V12 with 550hp or a twin turbo 760hp version which delivers 811 ft-lbs of torque!! It is said to be able to do 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds and 0-200km/h in 10.15 seconds. Its 2777 lbs weight is distributed 42:58 (front/rear), is 192 inches long (16 feet), 82 inches wide (6.8 feet) and only 51 inches high (4.25 feet).

Production is limited to 12 units a year, pricing starting at at $495,000 USD.

The Tramontana R is equiped with 20 inch carbon fiber/magnesium wheels, 6 piston Brembo calipers and a custom Ohlins adjustable suspension (85 and 135 mm). It is heavily built using carbon fiber, has slick F1 style LCD gauges and a 6 speed sequential gearbox

Over 500 Supercars along with the Codatronca will be on display for the public Saturday January 24th on Flagler Drive, Palm Beach Florida.

Fisker Karma S – Sunset Concept Preview

In addition to the production version of the Fisker Karma, the first luxury plug-in hybrid, Fisker Automotive will also be taking the wraps off a new concept during the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Fisker Automotive CEO Henrik Fisker will announce details about the Fisker Karma S (Sunset) at the company’s press conference in Cobo Hall on January 12.

Henrik Fisker is the CEO of Fisker Coachbuild. He has lived and worked in Germany, London, and in Southern California. He graduated from the Swiss campus of California’s Art Center College of Design in 1989.

Best known among his creations are the Aston Martin DB9, Aston Martin V8 Vantage and BMW Z8.

Koenigsegg CCXR Video and Pictures

Here is an awesome video of a Koenigsegg CCXR being delivered and then taken out for a quick test drive on a very fun looking windy road! Turn up the volume and enjoy! For some reason if I had to choose between this carbon fiber cladded Koenigsegg CCXR and a Bugatti Veyron, I would definitely choose the CCXR because of its dark and stealth like design.

Frankfurt 2009 Auto Show: Marussia B2 Supercar Photos

Nikolay Fomenko is a very accomplished Russian renaissance man. He is a musician, comic actor and FIA N-GT race champion who later became a leading showman on Russian TV.

He recently launched his country’s first hybrid supercar company called Marussia. Don’t forget to checkout the Russian coach built E-Go Revolt which also broke news earlier this year.

Fomenko brings a lot of knowledge from his racing career for Marussia.

The Marussia is slated to use a 240-hp, 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine yet unclear who will supply the electric drive components.

Approximately 35% car will be Russian and will be designed to provide a range of 400km and should do the 0-100 km/h dash in under 5 seconds with a price tag around $100,000 USD. First customer cars will be delivered late 2009.
